Sensory-Friendly Movie a Success

On December 13th seven families attended the sensory friendly viewing of “Penguins of Madagascar” at Cinemark Theater in Lancaster. The lights were turned up and the sound down allowing children with sensory issues to be able to enjoy the movie without the distractions of loud noises and parents were able to keep an eye on their children with the lights up. The children were also able to do what they needed to do to self-regulate. Scott Campbell of SOCIL was instrumental in arranging the viewing. Ryan Gilday of Cinemark took on this opportunity without hesitation. Mr. Gilday stated, “having something like this will definitely benefit the community and I’m always looking for more ways to be involved with the community at each theater I’ve run.” Randy and Anne Staffey attended the movie with their son Dominick. Anne stated “We have tried to take Dominick to the movies here before and the sound was always too loud for him. But during this sensory showing it was great, he enjoyed it so much more and giggled throughout the movie.”

Information on future sensory friendly viewings will be forthcoming.
